Rob Harland represents the families in 5 conjoined inquests linked to defective Beko gas cookers
Rob Harland (instructed by Thomas Jervis for Leigh Day) represented the families in five conjoined inquests looking into two incidents in which defective gas cookers had released lethal amounts of carbon monoxide when used with the grill door shut.
The Coroner found serious failings and errors on the part of domestic appliances producer Beko, in that they had failed to immediately notify trading standards of information that raised the concern, failed to promptly notify distributors or consumers of the threat, and failed to provide full information when dealing with tradings standards and their notified body. Their parent company, Arcelik, had failed to anticipate in its design how the grill would be used in its design, though it was glaringly obvious. The failings ranged from being described as a lost opportunity to prevent the deaths, to being causative of the deaths. Peter Taheri also represented the families in an earlier hearing.
