Brook House Inquiry: first preliminary hearing

The Brook House Inquiry has held its first preliminary hearing.

The Brook House Inquiry was established to investigate the decisions, actions and circumstances surrounding the mistreatment of detainees at the Brook House Immigration Removal Centre as shown in the BBC Panorama programme ‘Under-Cover: Britain’s Immigration Secrets’, which aired on 4 September 2017. The Inquiry will reach conclusions with regard to the treatment of detainees where there is credible evidence of mistreatment contrary to article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights and then make any recommendations. The Inquiry’s full terms of reference can be found here.

The Inquiry is expected to begin hearing evidence in the summer of 2021.

Jonathan Dixey and Jennifer Wright are instructed on behalf of the Independent Monitoring Board.
