Anne Studd QC comments for The Telegraph regarding the use of facial recognition technology by police forces following important ruling in R (Bridges) v Chief Constable of South Wales Police

Yesterday, the Court of Appeal handed down judgment in the appeal against the Divisional Court’s decision in R (Bridges) v Chief Constable of South Wales Police [2020] 1 WLR 672. The Court of Appeal ruled that he use of facial recognition technology by police was unlawful and did interfere with privacy and data protection laws.
