Amy Clarke secures dismissal without notice of a police officer who established a sexual relationship with a vulnerable member of the public

15 December 2021

Amy was instructed by Wiltshire Police to present the disciplinary proceedings against PC Darren Thorn, who was found to have abused his position as a police officer by pursuing a sexual relationship with a vulnerable victim of domestic violence. He also accessed confidential police systems and disclosed confidential information unlawfully in the course of that relationship. As well as facing criminal charges, PC Thorn faced more extensive allegations of misconduct relating to the relationship. All allegations were found proven, and he was dismissed without notice. PC Thorn will also be placed on the Police Barred List, preventing future employment in policing.

Amy is regularly instructed by police forces across the country to advise on, and to present, complex disciplinary proceedings and cases heard by the Police Appeal Tribunal. Amy has particular expertise in the presentation of cases involving abuse of position and sexual misconduct.

The case has attracted widespread coverage.
