Alastair has a busy practice spanning all areas of employment law as well as education law.
Alastair has successfully acted for both teachers and head teachers in misconduct proceedings brought by the Teaching Regulation Agency (as it now is, formerly the National College of Teaching and Leadership). As a School Governor for 13 years between 2000 and 2013, Alastair has an in depth knowledge of the teaching profession, the behavioural standards expected of teachers and the approach taken by members of the TRA’s Disciplinary Panels to disciplinary hearings. In his most recent case, Alastair successfully argued that all 20 allegations of unreasonable professional conduct against his client were “not proven”, thereby ensuring that the Panel did not progress to the second stage of the process to determine whether a Prohibition Order was appropriate in the circumstances of the case.
Alastair is frequently called on to deliver training both nationally and internationally. In 2016 he was made an Honorary Professor at Nottingham Law School.
Alastair has delivered over 250 lectures on all aspects of employment law, education law and advocacy over the last 15 years. Feedback from recent lectures includes:
“Amazing day! Entertaining, funny and informative.”
“Mr Hodge is the best speaker I have ever heard.”
“Engaging, passionate and compelling. A total tour de force. Alastair is Billy Connolly, Dave Allen and Rory Bremner all rolled into one.”
“Alastair Hodge has excelled himself again. How anyone could make Data Protection so amusing is beyond me!”
Alastair was elected a Bencher of the Inner Temple in 2014.
