Jason Beer QC represents South Yorkshire Police in Sir Cliff Richard case

Jason Beer QC is representing South Yorkshire Police in the high profile case of Sir Cliff Richard v the BBC and the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police  the trial starts today.

Jason is instructed by South Yorkshire Police in relation to a claim for misuse of private information, breach of Art.8 ECHR and breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 following the publication by the BBC that Sir Cliff Richard was being investigated by South Yorkshire Police and the publication of visual images of the search of his premises in August 2014.

The case is likely to have significant implications as it involves novel issues of the application of the tort of misuse of private information to the conduct of a police operation and the identification of suspects pre-charge.
