Charlotte Ventham and Georgina Wolfe deliver a Masterclass in Civil Actions and Inquests
On 21st July 2015, Charlotte Ventham and Georgina Wolfe delivered a one day seminar to the North West Region Force Solicitors on civil actions and inquests. The training was attended by 45 delegates from the legal departments of GMP, Merseyside, North Wales, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria constabularies.
The civil actions session included practical advice on the running of a case from start to finish, using the civil procedure rules to tactical advantage, managing disclosure obligations, the implications of the Jackson reforms, evidence and costs.
The inquests session included an overview of the legal framework including recent legislative changes and their practical effect, how to get the most from pre-inquest reviews, the whole inquest process covering both Article 2 and jury inquests and finally a look at inquest costs.
Delegates were given a comprehensive overview of the principles, tactics and up to date case law touching on these areas of practice with an emphasis on the practicalities involved, particularly from the solicitors’ perspective, in defending civil actions and conducting inquest proceedings.
This training is available to forces on an individual or regional basis – any enquiries should be directed to Mark Waller, Senior Clerk.
